Instagram vs reality ~ I wanted to write this post, as know Instagram can be one of those places where perfection is always on show, and yes, I am 100% guilty of taking 50 photos until I get the right one, and a lot comes into play, lighting, positioning and even makeup.

Everything you see on the Instagram app is not always what it seems and I sometimes need to remind myself of this, which is why I wanted to show my no makeup, blemishes on show and pores a glory face, because that’s real skin and real me!
I am have been guilty, in the past of feeling the extra pressure to look like the “perfect” content creator and that has sometimes led to me having to take a mental health break from social media, as it can definitely be draining at times, especially when it is your job, which is perfectly fine, it’s good to recognise that something is effecting your mental health and step away, refresh and revisit with a new mindset.

I do love the process of taking photos, the editing, colour grading, adding little flares and grains etc, but draw the line at altering my face, not only does this give a false and unattainable impression of beauty, it is encouraging your followers and friends to feel like they need to look a certain way to be classed as “beautiful”. When in fact it is not even real.
Beauty always has and always will come in all shapes, sizes, genders and races. Just be happy to be your true authentic self, you are beautiful and please don’t always believe what you seen on your phone screen.
Curate your feed to inspire you, follow those who are honest, real and share positivity.
I’m slowly starting to curate my Instagram timeline to include lots of people who inspire me, uplift me and make me feel good, not people who make me feel down and inferior. The unfollow button is there for a reason – it’s definitely a step in the right direction to having Instagram as my happy place again.
Will you be making changes to how you use social media and Instagram specifically? Do you get caught up in comparing yourself to others?
