Plenty of us have struggled with Acne, dryness, flakiness, eczema, fine lines or other skin concerns. This year I have been on a mission to learn to love my own skin.
Wouldn’t it be amazing if everyone felt comfortable in their own skin, wouldn’t it be amazing if we weren’t bombarded with heavily edited photos on social media, continually warping our idea of what beauty is supposed to look like.
Texture, pores, hair, blemishes, pigmentation and lines, they are all beautiful and tell a story of the lives we have lived, we need to F beauty standards and start embracing bare, beautiful, real skin as it’s the only one we will have.

I’d love to start seeing more real skin in large media AD campaigns, I know some brands have started to not airbrush skin as much, but they are still in the minority. I feel like a lot of people are becoming more aware of editing and airbrushing apps and are wanting to see natural unedited skin – especially skincare and makeup on real skin.
Throughout the past few months I have been switching up my Instagram feed, I’ve ditched any presets or filters and heavy editing, opting for minimal edits and showcasing my skin in all its glory, blemishes, spots, hairs and all, and you know what? it has been freeing, liberating and it’s really teaching me to love myself and appreciate the skin I have.
Yes I do still use lens filters on my camera lens to add a desired dreamt effect but I never edit any blemishes, dark circles or imperfections, as I want people to see the real texture and what skin looks like, especially when I am testing new makeup and skincare.

I occasionally suffer with hormonal acne breakouts, which are painful and get me down, but I try my best to embrace them, and don’t hide away when I’m having breakouts anymore, I’m not ashamed, it’s part of my monthly cycle, it tells me my body is working how it should.
Now that I am in my 40’s I have started to feel very grateful for my skin, my body and everything it does for me. If you do one thing this year (what is left of it) why not try to look in the mirror more and really get used to your bare skin, study it and learn to love every part of it.
Look forward to seeing you all share your bare faced photos.

Love this post. It’s so easy to be swept up in feeling bad about ones skin when it doesn’t look like everything that’s flooding our social media feeds. I’m trying to get better at being comfortable with my large pores and texture ❤️
It really is. What really irks me is when there are makeup/skincare ads with filters on. Like NO! We want to see how the product actually works.

It must be really liberating to embrace all of yourself and ditch the filters. I really hope this does become a more popular practise because there is no such thing as perfection. Our flaws are what make us gloriously unique!
It’s been a journey, I used to use filters a lot and realised it wasn’t songs my mental health any good. Feel more free these days.
This is such an encouraging and supportive post; thank you for sharing your journey to loving your skin. I have issues still with mine so it was so nice to read this and not feel so down about my outbreaks!
Thank you so much for reading. It’s been a long road accepting my skin and even at 36, seeing the “perfect” Instagram models gets to me a little bit I have to remember it is all fake and edited and not to compare myself. Awe all skin is beautiful 💞
Great, love it. When we start embracing our imperfections, we feel better and liberated. Glad this happening, thanks for the awareness.
Definitely, super happy it’s starting to become a “thing” it’s just upsetting to my young people think skin/makeup looks like the ads.
