How can this still be happening you ask? Well it’s true, so many brands are STILL continuing to test on innocent animals, it’s truly disgusting and completely unnecessary in this day and age!
There are so many incredible brands, doing great things fir animal welfare that you can support other than these cruel, money hungry brands.
In my opinion if small independent brands can produce amazing products without animal testing, billion dollar conglomerates can sure do it! They are just greedy.
Most of the brands in this list are huge corporations and have many brands under their umbrella, Unilever and Estée Lauder for example own a large number of beauty brands, if just one of these huge companies took a step in the right direction by cutting out animal testing, it would set the course for others to follow suit, stop animal testing and selling in China (where products may be subjected to post market animal testing).

Please like, share and comment to raise awareness that this is STILL happening in 2021.
Some good news ~ Garnier is officially cruelty free now, which is big news, just to note, they are still owned by a parent company, which does animal test ~ L’Oréal.
What makes a brand NOT Cruelty Free
When brands test ingredients either throughout or at the end of the production they are not classed as cruelty free, any brands supporting animal testing practices in this day and age is just doing this for the cash grab, China is a huge market and a lot of brands want to tap into that, but when they do they can no longer be viewed as cruelty free, as animal testing is still required by law ~ basically a product can be taken off the shelves for testing at any time and brands can not control this.
A good example of a brand no longer being cruelty free is Wet n Wild and whilst they’d say they are bypassing animal testing, like I said above if the government decides to animal test for any reason ie. complaints they can do so at their will, so in my eyes the brand can’t be considered cruelty free, as there is a risk of testing.
A lot of people query this and still support the brand, as they display the Cruelty Free logo (which is unregulated, so anyone can use it) I go more into these details in my Is it vegan? Post, so definitely check that out for some more information. The only TRULY cruelty free certification is Leaping Bunny Approval, NOT PETA! PETA have a history of promoting brands which are not vegan or cruelty free but just fit their narratives. You can only trust the following logos when you see them on products.

Some Animal Testing Facts (UK based)
Source; Gov.uk
In 2020, 2.88 million procedures were carried out in Great Britain involving living animals.
This is a decrease of 15% on last year, and the lowest number of procedures since 2004 ~ this is fantastic news but still a hell of alot of work to do!
Around half of all procedures were experimental procedures (1.44 million). The other half were for the creation and breeding of genetically altered (GA) animals (1.44 million).
The majority (92%) of procedures (both for experimental and breeding purposes) used mice, fish, or rats. These species have been the most used for more than a decade.
Over half (53%) of experimental procedures were for the purpose of basic research. Most commonly focusing on the the immune system, the nervous system, and cancer.
Experimental procedures
These procedures involve using animals in scientific studies for purposes such as: basic research and the development of treatments, safety testing of pharmaceuticals and other substances, specific surgical training and education, environmental research and species protection.
- 1.44 million procedures carried out for experimental purposes
- 57% of procedures used mice
- 14% of procedures used rats
- 13% of procedures used fish
- over half of experimental procedures were for basic research, the top three areas targeted in this research were the immune system, the nervous system and oncology (cancer)
- 96% of all experimental procedures were assessed as sub-threshold, mild, non-recovery or moderate in severity, 4% were assessed as severe

Open Letter to Brands
Please feel free to use this letter (provided by leapingbunny.org) to send to brands to find out the testing policies of brands before you support them, as FAQ or policies on brand websites can be vague and skirt around their true intentions.
To Whom It May Concern:
I enjoy your products and hope to continue to purchase them in the future. However, as a concerned consumer, I would like to know your policy on the use of animals in product testing. Do you currently conduct or commission any animal testing for your personal and/or household products? Do you have a written agreement with your suppliers regarding ingredient testing on animals?
I encourage you to join the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics’ (CCIC) Leaping Bunny Program. By certifying your products with this program and licensing the Leaping Bunny Logo, you can assure myself and other concerned consumers that your products are truly free of animal testing. To find out more about the Leaping Bunny Program, go to www.leapingbunny.org or contact the CCIC at (888)546-CCIC.
Thanks in advance for your attention to this important matter.
Sincerely,

It’s a massive bummer that so many beauty brands in particular still test on animals. I hope to see a change in the future!
I know, it really sucks, it’s the big brand that have the money and means to go cruelty free that really get to me!
It’s so sad that animal testing is still a thing in this day an age. I’m pretty sure in most markets this can be made obsolete. I’m so glad I use e.l.f who are cruelty free. Thanks for this info!
It’s awful isn’t it!? I absolutely love elf they are incredible!
This is such an important post! It’s truly disgusting that this is still happening and I will definitely be avoiding all of these brands in the future. Thank you so much. It really is disturbing it is still happening in 2022! Especially from brands which have the budget and means to make a HUGE difference, sucks!! x
It’s not good to test on animals. If they have alternatives other than animals. I don’t like the idea. Thank you for sharing this and highlighting it.
Thank you so much for stopping by and reading, it’s awful isn’t it, i wish the big brands would make an effort to stop it!
AMAZING and in depth post, girl! Wow!! This is so important to shed light on and I really appreciate you for sharing your knowledge on it. I’ll be keeping an eye out for these brands.

I’m so happy to see that the brands I use aren’t on this list. I did my research a few years ago hoped that they all stuck to their word!
While it’s good, there’s still improvements to be made. Hopefully these other brands decide to make a change soon.
That’s amazing! So many brands are making the switch, I really wish the big players would follow suit. I hope one day!
