about vicky
Hi, I’m Vicky, I am 40 and I live In the United Kingdom, we have recently moved to Yorkshire, but I am originally from a town called Basingstoke, which is in Hampshire. Late 2015 I moved to Torquay to live with my now fiancée, Jak and our mischievous black cat called Loki. Then in 2021 we moved all the way up to West Yorkshire and the rest is history.
In my spare time I love to blog, take photos and research the newest makeup trends. I have also recently started to work freelance creating UGC for brands, which has been very exciting and also challenging, but what is life without challenges!
about kabuki rune
Kabuki Rune is a Cruelty Free Beauty/Makeup and Lifestyle blog and was started by myself, Vicky in March of 2017, I like to focus my blogging on Cruelty Free Makeup and Beauty products.
I started this blog as I have a passion for makeup and beauty and wanted to connect with my fellow beauty lovers to share honest and unbiased reviews, recommendations and suggestions for Cruelty Free Beauty & Makeup finds. I love reviewing both drugstore and highend products and I absolutely love finding a good dupe for highend products! as who doesn’t like to save a little bit of £$

All the products featured on my blog are certified Cruelty Free and I am now starting to use more Organic and Sustainable products, so there will be alot more Organic skincare and makeup popping up. I’m a big animal lover and I believe that no animal should be harmed for our own vanity, there are plenty of products available that are Cruelty Free, you just have to do a little brand research, and that’s where I come in….. I will do the hunting for you and give you the low down on the products I find.
frequently asked questions
when did you start blogging?
I started blogging, in March 2017 which is when Kabuki Rune was created. My vision for my blog was based on my love and passion for cruelty free beauty. I read a lot of blogs, so thought “I can do that” so, I did and Kabuki Rune was born.
what camera do you use?
Most of the photographs on my blog are taken with a Canon EOS R with either a Canon 100mm 2.8 L macro, Canon 50mm 1.8 or Canon 24-70mm 2.8 L lens ~ I also use a lot of vintage M42 lenses, and lens filters, which has become a new passion of mine.
I do occasionally use my iPhone 12 Pro Max for those candid snaps. I use Lightroom mobile and desktop for editing my photos, as I have created my own presets.
what is your skin type?
My skin type leans towards the oily side, I use alot mattifying products to try and reduce the amount of oil my skin produces but am yet to fine found my holy grail foundation for oily skin, it’s a life long struggle to keep foundation on my face. If you have any suggestions, let me know.

what is your hair type?
In the past I used to dye my hair a rainbow of colours, and I don’t think my hair has ever really recovered. I have managed to grow it out and it is completely natural now, but it is still dry and lacks volume, I struggle to find hair products to smooth it out and add volume. I do have very wavy hair so can also get frizzy in the humid weather.
what are the best experiences you’ve got from blogging?
Apart from getting to spend most of my time talking about makeup and beauty with like minded people, I think it has been improving my photography skills and working with some awesome brands, it’s been so overwhelming at times when brands contact me, so thankful for every one of the brands I have worked with for believing in me.
Last, but not least. Thank you so much for dropping by today and I really hope you have enjoyed browsing my blog, as much as I enjoy sharing my thoughts with you.
