Due to the current coronavirus lockdown measures that are in place, more of us than ever are having to spend most of our time at home. While none of us like having our freedoms taken away from us and our summer plans cancelled, staying in keeps us (and others) safe, and let’s face it- there are worse places to be than your own comfy home! To make the most of the situation, here are some of the ways you can enjoy your property while we’re all having to spend more time at home.
Make it cosy
We’re all very good at being busy. We get up early and attend to children or go to work, we’re on our feet or doing tasks all day long and then get home, eat and collapse in bed ready to do it all again the next day. What most of us aren’t so good at is taking a step back, giving ourselves time to rest and recuperate. So while you’re forced to stay home, why not make the most of it? Have spa evenings where you light candles, run a hot bubble bath and treat your hair and skin to some luxurious products. Enjoy binge watching a new show on Netflix, read books, meditate, do whatever makes you feel happy and relaxed and don’t feel bad about your lack of productivity. We might never get another opportunity to do this, and while it being a pandemic is certainly not the best of circumstances we can only try and see the good and do what we can during this time to make the most of things. So draw the blinds, get out some fluffy throws, put on your comfiest pyjamas and enjoy your duvet days while you can!

Do some repairs and maintenance
Now that you’re spending more time at home, you might be looking around and seeing all kinds of issues that didn’t bother you before. Yellowing paint, peeling wallpaper, scuffs, chips and damage. If you’re having a day where you want to be productive then why not work on your home? Many DIY stores are still offering deliveries and collections, so ordering in some paint and other tools can give you something to do during this time. As well as making it look nice, you could also tackle some general maintenance too. Get up some ladders and clean your gutters, you could check if the roof needs any roof repair work while you’re up there. You could dig your flower beds and maintain the lawn, you could clean all of your windows- there are plenty of jobs that need to be done a few times a year that most of us put off. Now is the time you could catch up on all of those things, and feel really organised once life gets back to normal.
Get out into the garden
Speaking of the garden, if you’re lucky enough to have one then why not make the most of it? Along with work and maintenance to keep you busy such as tending to flowers and mowing grass, you could put out a deck chair and use it to relax. If you’re able to get coals and meat on your regular weekly shop then you could have a barbeque and maybe even a few drinks at the weekend. With the warmer weather coming in, now is the perfect time to get out there and top up your tan- it might not be the same as sunbathing on a beach but it will do your mental health some good and it can prevent you from getting sick of looking at the same four walls indoors. If you’re feeling really motivated you could even do some exercise, from yoga on the lawn to skipping with a skipping rope, bouncing on a trampette, even doing laps jogging if your garden is a little bigger. Again, it’s a great way to give your mental health a boost and get those endorphins flowing.

It’s a strange time at the moment, but your home is your place of safety and comfort so make the most of it. Take the time to do things you’d never normally get round to, even if that’s just the time to relax. And remember, this isn’t forever, one day we’ll look back on all of this and be amazed at the lengths we had to go to to avoid this virus!

Getting outside in my garden is the highlight of my day sometimes! It’s nice to get a decent bit of fresh air with being stuck in all of the time! x
