Let’s talk periods ~ I have suffered with the worst period pains since I was 16, and to be honest they have never really gone away. At 35, I still dread that ‘time of the month’ and to make matters worse I have never gotten along with wearing tampons (they never feel comfortable) and sanitary towels tend irritate me ~ plus they are extremely bad for the environment, did you know just 1 sanitary towel can take up to 500 to 800 years to decompose as the plastic used in most towels is non-biodegradable and can lead to health and environmental hazards….. scary right?!..

why period pants?
I need something new try, something more sustainable, affordable and planet friendly, so during my recent period I have been trying out some WUKA basics period pants and they have changed my period game, they are super comfortable, affordable, accessible and sustainable they don’t cause me any itchy or uncomfortableness ‘down there’
The new WUKA basics launch is focussing on providing more affordable pair of period pants to everyone, which is great as it means that more people will have access to sustainable periods.

I feel comfortable and confident walking around in my new period pants and with the knowledge of knowing I will not have any leaks, I almost have a spring in my step! Fun fact the pants can safely absorb 2-3 tampons a worth of period blood!!!! which fills me with all confidence, as I do tend to have a heavier period on my first day so I am always conscious of any leakages.
There are 3 types of pants for varying flows ~ Heavy flow period pants can hold up to 20ml of blood, medium flow 15ml and light flow pants 5ml and the period pants, just rinse, wash and dry and you can reuse again and again saving and the planet WUKA Basic pants are priced at £12 sold individually, or £10 if you get a set, I’d recommend a minimum of 3, one to wear, one to wash and one to dry, to keep you covered throughout your period.

WUKA stands for WAKE UP KICK ASS ~ Sustainability is not a luxury, it’s a necessity, absolutely love the ethics and ethos of this brand #notaluxury
faqs
How long can I wear them? It depends on your flow. Heavy flow period pants can hold up to 20ml of blood, medium flow 15ml and light flow pants 5ml. It is recommended to wear your heavy pants for UP TO 8 hours, whereas the medium flow for 4-6 hours.
Will they smell after a long time of wear? No, the fabric has antibacterial properties.
How are they different to other brands? Almost all WUKA period pants have sustainable material Lenzing modal material, or organic cotton, vs, other brands who use Nylon. WUKA are also unique in that they are a UK based brand and their pants are also shipped from the UK.

Do you wash separately or with darks? After you rinsed the underwear, you can throw it in with your darks.
Do I rinse them before washing? Yes
What do you wash them with and can I use softener? Your usual washing powder but no fabric softener and no tumble drying.
Do I need to change them during the day? It depends on your flow. Heavy flow period pants can hold up to 20ml of blood, medium flow 15ml and light flow pants 5ml. We recommend wearing your heavy pants for UP TO 8 hours, whereas the medium flow for 4-6 hours.
Where do I put them after they are used at the end of the day? You can hand wash and air dry, the best place is your boiler cupboard or your hot towel rain. Best to dry inside out.
How many pants would you need to buy? It is recommended to have a minimum of 3, one to wear, one to wash and one to dry. But again it depends on the number of days that you bleed, many of our customers buy a mixture of flows and on average they own around 7 pairs.

Are they good with cycling, horse riding etc? – Yes! Several people have even run marathons with their WUKA.
How is it sanitary? WUKA underwear are just like normal pants and have no added chemicals. We do not use silver treatment as that would eventually end up in the ocean and harm marine life. The inner layer of our fabric has antibacterial properties.
Where does the blood go? Absorbent layer in the gusset, there is also a second leak proof layer.
Are they good for just after having a baby? Yes! it’s recommended to try WUKA Heavy for postpartum bleeding. The new High Waist is also great for covering scars and hugging your tummy after a c-section.
Do they leak? – If you follow advice in regards to how long you wear your pants, your period pants should not leak. You know your flow best, if you are bleeding a lot, change the pants more often.
Have you tried period pants? If not would you try them, let me me know in the comments.

This is such an interesting concept. I’m using reusable pads now, but this seems pretty great as well! I am worried about those hours though.
They are so good, I’ve never got on with pads or tampons and these are a game changer for me! 🙂 super comfy too!
I really like the sound of these period pants, I always wondered if wearing period pants meant more chance of leaking, but these ones sound like they don’t do that! x

They are honestly incredible, they have changed everything for me! 🙂
Wow these look great!! I had no idea it take 500-700 years for tampons to decompose, that’s HORRIFYING 😱😱😱
It’s scary isn’t it!!! 💔💔💔
I have never tried these but your review sounds like they are pretty good. I like how they are good for the environment.
They have been so great! I was skeptical at first but after trying them out, I’ve ended up living them and yes definitely so much better for the environment 🍃🌿😍
Such an interesting post! I swapped to a menstrual cup and it changed my game, but I have always been interested in trying period underwear! I have often researched a never been convinced 100%, but WUKA sounds like a good option! Affordable and sustainable, it’s a win-win! Thanks for sharing xx
They are so lovely 😊 they have changed everything! xx
This is just what I need! I love how affordable they are, too. I need to switch from tampons to period pants, but the only think really holding me back is leaking especially on work days as I can’t just change them at midday (I work in a primary school haha.) But I will never know until I try for myself! Thank you for the discovery, and beautiful pictures! 🙂 x

I’m so curious about this kind of pants and admit that I wasn’t sure if they’d be for me. You pretty much answered all the questions I have so I may venture into this kind of period care — thanks for the information!
That’s amazing! Hope you love them as much as I do!
