I was contacted by and kindly sent some plastic free sanitary products from Natracare for their recent #GoPlasticFree campaign to try. I have been researching alot into what our sanitary products are actually made of, and bearing in mind these products are either placed near to, or inside our most intimate and delicate areas it should be common knowledge what they are made of, but it’s not, and it’s not until you start delving you find out just much plastic is contained within these products, and it’s shocking.
Also what shocked me is just how much sanitary waste is produced and how long it can take to break down just one sanitary towel (facts will follow below) I for one, will certainly be sticking to #GoPlasticFree periods from now on, not only is it good for women’s health, it is paramount to the environment. I was personally shocked at how much sanitary waste is produced, and I don’t want to be part of that problem, I want to be part of the solution to #GoPlasticFree and continue to promote #PeriodPower for all women!
Many women continue to flush conventional menstrual products down the toilet, resulting in sanitary waste polluting our rivers, seas and beaches. Natracare is calling on all women to stop flushing menstrual products and use your #periodpower to clean up our oceans.

The average woman will dispose of 11,000 sanitary towels, which lined up end-to-end would equate to 2 Ben Nevis mountains or 26 Big Ben statues.
One pack of sanitary pads contains the same amount of plastic as 4 carrier bags.
One conventional sanitary pad takes around 500 years to break down.
Traditional period products contain chlorine which pollutes our waterways.
