I wrote a post a few days ago about organising activities on a budget. And as usual, I haven’t stuck to this list, well sort of – as in, we haven’t spent any money, which is great, but this was because we didn’t really leave the house yesterday. We were both so exhausted from travelling and sunburn, just needed to chill out a bit, after all that is what being off work is all about right? So we planned a little visit to Occombe Farm.
The Visit
Occombe Farm, is an actual working livestock farm where you can visit the animals and walk the 2 km nature trial for free. It is located just 10 minutes outside of Torquay, on the way to Paignton. We used to go visit quite regularly when we first met, but haven’t visited in while, so thought we could kill some time in the sun and visit the pigs and alpacas… Jak has a massive soft spot for the Berkshire piggy’s and doesn’t help that the views from the top of Occombe Farm are incredible, especially on a beautiful sunny day like today, I feel so blessed to live so close to these locations.

There is a cute little cafe and toilets on site, which is super handy during the warmer months. There also used to be a farm shop and butchers, but found out today that this has now moved to Dartmouth, which is massive shame, as I loved the local produce in the shop – obviously wasn’t a fan of the butchers, but that comes with the territory.
As always I used this visit as an excuse to take lots of photos. Even got Jak behind the camera (much to his dislike!) – I will get him to learn how to use a camera. My highlight of today was seeing lots of bumblebees and honeybees. I honestly cannot remember the last time I saw a big fluffy bumblebee, so this was so lovely to see. I tried to get some photos, but they are so quick, although I did manage to get some photos of the honeybees on the primroses.
When surrounded with nature, I always feel so relaxed and calm, its just nice to take a break out of the norm, enjoy the fresh air, sunshine and meadow plants. We have planned a trip to Teignmouth this Friday, so I’m looking forward to this and expect some more photos.
