Since I started blogging in 2017 I have become even more passionate about photography and I have owned a fair few camera brands over the years – Nikon, Canon, Olympus and Fujifilm. I have always been a keen photographer, but it has stepped up a level since I started blogging. Taking quality photographs are a great way to drive traffic to your blog or instagram.
I have really enjoyed learning how to both DSLR and mirrorless cameras, I have used a variety of lenses and set ups but I am finally happy with my current set up and thought it would be interesting to share it with you guys.
The Camera
I am currently using a Canon 70D with 2 lenses; this is an older camera, but it is still very usable, it has a flip out screen (great for selfies and videos), wifi, and a really sturdy hand grip. I love it, it feels super comfortable and not too heavy in my hands. I think it is very user friendly, even if you are new to DSLR cameras.
The Lenses
Canon 50mm 1.8 STM – which can also be known as the “nifty fifty” as it is really affordable and is amazing quality. This lens is brilliant for blog photography as you can get some great bokeh (blurry background) from this lens due to the 1.8 aperture. I love using this for up close products photos.
I’ve recently invested in the Sigma 18-35 DC HSM ART lens, which is also 1.8 aperture, so pretty quick. The thing that sets this lens apart from my 50mm is that this is a zoom lens, I’ve never used a zoom for my blog photos before, so this is something I am really enjoying learning, certainly different from a fixed prime lens. This lens is amazing quality and is built to be used on a crop sensor camera. I can’t wait to show you guys the photos from this lens!
Additional Equipment
For some of my flatlays I do like to use a tripod as this keeps the camera very steady and as the camera is higher up it can get more into the photo, which comes in handy when cropping from instagram. I only have a cheap one at the moment, which was from amazon, but its pretty sturdy and does the job well.
One item I have recently started using is a remote from my iPhone, it was a great idea and you can pick them up on eBay for as little as £3 – great if you want to get yourself in a photo or take some bomb selfies!
To store all my camera gear I actually have a Dr Martens camera bag, which was part of the Agyness Deyn Hawaiian collaboration! It’s amazing, but unfortunately its not available to buy anymore – I found mine on eBay though, so you might get lucky looking there.
When I am out and about with my camera I like to use a neck or hand strap, currently I have 2 vintage floral camera straps, which I purchased from Etsy! They are amazing and really make my gear look unique and very me!

Editing Software
For editing I use a variety of apps and software. it actually depends on what type of photo I am uploading, as I edit in different ways for each photo. I do like to use Lightroom a lot, as this is the most in depth and you have so many options for editing and I have created a few of my own presets which I use on most photos to get my “golden hue”. I use both Lightroom on my iPhone and my MacBook.
The mains apps I use are Snapseed, Tezza and VSCO – I love Snapseed to lighten certain parts of the photo and to heal out imperfections in photos. the Tezza app has some amazing presets and also a cool dust effect! Love that Tezza created this app! It also has some amazing story templates. VSCO is great for editing as with Lightroom you can create your own presets and apply them to all your photos, which is brilliant for creating a cohesive Instagram grid, I love that it also has video editing options! – I really recommend these apps, as well as Lightroom Mobile (if you don’t have access to a laptop)
What set up do you use? and what’s is your Favourite editing app or software?
