This post has been a long time coming, but I wanted to share a little life update, as I don’t feel I share a lot of personal information on my blog and I would love for you guys to get to know me better. I wrote a post last year discussing my mental health, and a lot has happened since I publish that post, so thought it would be nice to update you all on my progress and what has happened over the last few months in regards to my mental health and my personal life.
During the last month, I have left my dental nursing job and started a new job, with the idea I was getting back on the career ladder in an office environment, this was not the case. I soon realised that my anxiety has been holding me back more than I thought. Once I started, I quickly became overwhelmed with the new job, people and fast paced environment, so I made the brave (stupid some may say) decision to leave without any other job lined up
Suffice to say I have now been “jobless” for 3 weeks, I regularly have an overwhelming sense of guilt, which I am sure is a little due to my anxiety aswell, but I am definitely feeling it, as my fiancé is supporting us both right now, which in the long run will be better for my mental health, but right now I feel very down about everything. And definately on the financial side of things, we will have to tighten out belt a little until I find a new job.
My family have been continually supportive and knew how much the job was effecting me and my health, they actually wanted me to leave, as did my fiancé, as I was never going to be happy, and everyone could see that, so why drag out the inevitable?
Luckily I do have some savings, so this is helping, but it won’t do forever, so I am back on the job hunt, but this time for something I REALLY want to do, I don’t want to just go for a job, for jobs sake as I will just be in the same position.

Anxiety sucks right?
In regards to my anxiety and mental healthy, this has taken a real turn for the worst since around September/October time when I really started to feel down and not went to go to work/face people, so I finally plucked up the courage to see my GP.
I was a little nervous as my first experience taking about my anxiety with a GP did not go well, I left feeling rejected, unsupported and very confused. So I left it a few months and saw a different doctor. I was actually in the midst of a panic attack when I arrived for my emergency appointment and she was concerned about my heart rate (I had to call an ambulance a few months ago due to having my first panic attack & I didn’t know what was happening) my heat rate soon calmed down as my doctor acknowledged the fact I had an anxiety disorder, which was a massive weight off my shoulders, as I wasn’t crazy the feelings I am having are real and are going to go away with help.
I was overwhelmed with happiness that I finally knew that it was my anxiety causing all these problems. My GP and I agreed that I should try some medication for when I feel overwhelmed and anxious, so I have been taking 10mg Propanalol, when needed. Propanalol is a beta blocker which lowers your heart rate and relieves the symptoms on anxiety. What it doesn’t do is get rid of the thoughts in my head, which causes the anxiety, so in the near future, when I feel up to it, I am going to try and seek out some talking therapy, to help with the mental side of things. I have referred my self in the past, but when it came to attending the appointment, I always chickened out, so I am hoping to focus on one thing at a time, baby steps.

I am trying to take things slowly, day by day to not get overwhelmed, of course I still do have my down days (regularly) where I just don’t want to get up out of bed, but I am sure this will pass when I have found both the right therapies and also a little job for me. In the meantime I have been spending time trying to focus on the things that I love; blogging more, and improving my photography and improving my mental wellbeing.
I have been started to film some videos, which is way out of my comfort zone. Recently I have been trying to cut caffeine as much as I can, as this can also be a trigger for anxiety, I’ve got to admit this is one thing I am struggling with, as I do LOVE my coffees… but if it will help me improve my mental health, it is 100% worth it.
I’d love to hear your experiences with mental health and if talking therapy or medication helped?
I also just wanted to add that there are many organisations you can contact if you need help, please don’t be afraid to ask, it’s truly the best thing you can do – when you feel you are at that point. Sometimes speaking to a stranger makes it so much easier.
