I haven’t posted a lot about Covid-19 and what is going on at the moment, as to be honest it’s all a bit crazy right now and I don’t feel as though I am educated enough to speak about it all. I’ve been trying my best to stop reading news and social media, but it’s very hard to avoid at the moment. I do hope you are all feeling ok and staying safe, very strange times right now.
When COVID-19 all kicked off I was really disappointed to see people panic buying and ravaging our supermarkets, it was totally selfish and really opened my eyes a little, it got me thinking about how we could DIY products and I know hand sanitiser was a one product which people were majorly panic and overbuying…. my fiancé was told by hospital staff he delivers to that people were stealing hand gel and toilet roll from the hospital…. I really wish more people would think outside the box before rushing to stores, especially when hand sanitiser can be easily made at home.

We are in a time now where we can experiment, DIY and be more sustainable and I wanted to share a super easy and vegan hand sanitiser recipe that you can make and use at home, all products are easily available from Amazon and this hand sanitiser will last up-to a week.
Ingredients
- Pump bottle ~ preferably a glass bottle, which can be easily refilled (I have used an old bottle I had licking around)
- 3/4 cup isopropyl or rubbing alcohol (99 percent alcohol volume)
- 1/4 cup organic aloe vera gel
- 10 drops of essential oil, such as tea tree oil or lavender oil, or you can also use lemon juice
Directions
- Pour all ingredients into a bowl ~ I prefer to use a Pyrex jug, as it has a spout and measurements
- Mix with a wooden spoon and then have a good whisk to turn into a thick gel
- Pour the ingredients into an empty bottle with pump for easy use.

The trick to making an effective, germ-busting hand sanitiser is to stick to a 2:1 proportion of alcohol to aloe vera. This keeps the alcohol content approximately 60 percent. This is the minimum amount needed to kill the majority of germs, according to health authorities.
I just wanted to mention, that although hand sanitisers can be a very effective way of getting rid of germs easily, health authorities do still recommend hand-washing whenever possible to keep your hands free of disease-causing viruses and other germs.
