Ok, so this weekend I suffered with a slight allergic reaction to a face mask I had used. This has never happened to me before, as I usually I do not have problems with new products, as my skin is pretty robust (well I thought so!) so naturally i was a little distressed and panicked as my face was extremely red where the face mask had been (all over my face) so i pretty much looked like a lobster…. was quite scary as I was also getting a burning sensation.
The funny thing is, my fiance used the exact same face mask without any reaction, so I must have been sensitive to one of the ingredients….. anyway I digress, I wanted to go over some steps to soothe your face after a reaction to a product. I found these tips really useful.

Tips to soothe your skin
1) DO NOT use hot water, as this will agitate your skin further, instead use cold water to wash your face for the next few days
2) DO NOT exfoliate, as this could flair the reaction. just be patient and all will be well
3) DO Moisturise, Moisturise, Moisturise – as your skin will be dry from your body trying to fight the reaction, you need to re hydrate your skin. use a hydrating light Moisturiser or sheet mask to add moisture back to your skin. I used my favourite hydrating Moisturiser, which is the Pure Cloud Cream from Skyn ICELAND – such a good cream, i swear by it!

4) DO use Aloe Vera gel – this was literally my saving grace, it instantly soothed the burning sensation and calmed the skin down pretty much as soon as it touched the skin. I used the Base Formula Aloe Vera & Neroli Hydrating Gel, perfect for this situation…. also smells amazing!

5) DO NOT use any makeup products whilst your skin is healing, as these may irritate your skin further, its best to just go bare face until you are sure your skin has gone back to normal
6) DO be patient, your skin may take a few days to calm down, but be patient and follow these simple steps, your skin will be back to normal in no time
7) DO A PATCH TEST – this is advice i am guilty of not following (i will from now on) I took my skin for granted and assumed it would be fine, in truth you never know how your skin is going to react to a certain product, so it is always best to do a quick skin patch test 24 hours before trying the product to avoid any reactions.
