It is with a heavy heart that I am writing this, the fan favourite and luxe British brand Charlotte Tilbury (in my opinion) can no longer be classed as cruelty free. Over the last week or so I have been seeing photos of Charlotte Tilbury pop up stands at Little B Stores in mainland China, and whilst their products are not physically sold in store, rather being ordered by staff over the phone or online, they are being used on customers, as testers. Charlotte Tilbury were already selling to mainland China through cross border channels, and in my opinion they took a huge risk by allowing their products into Little B stores.
What some people may not be aware of is that once a product is on shelves in mainland China, the product is then under the Chinese law and authorities can test the products on animals without even acknowledging the brand, so products cannot be classed as 100% cruelty free, as there is a chance, may that be small, that the products will be tested on animals.
Right now, alot of brands are trying loopholes like this where they try and sell in China without loosing their cruelty free status, but this has not be proven yet and I wouldn’t want to recommend you a product that I don’t fully know hasn’t been tested on animals. To me this seems like brands are being greedy and choosing money over ethics and I not about that!
Brands cannot 100% guarantee that a product hasn’t been tested so I will not be supporting those that choose to try and find loopholes in this law.
This is such sad news, as I was a huge fan of Charlotte Tilbury and only recently received a PR parcel from them, which I was so happy about. From now on I will not be promoting or supporting the brand. With my existing products, I am either going to donate, use up what i have or run a giveaway for the current products i have. Let me know in the comments what you think i should do with the products, as i don’t want to be wasteful.
What do you think of this situation? Was Charlotte Tilbury a brand you used to support?
